new project

Well, Many of you have heard that we are getting a new addition in January. What some of you dont know is that it is going to be a 4 door... yep-while not abandoning progress on my truck-it will still be improved/upgraded/completed, the focus now is on completing the family car.

We have had this dream of a 1950 suburban and my better half has been anxious. The end game will be a vehicle that appears from 100 feet away to be bone stock height and configuration.

On a closer inspection you will be left wondering what is different if anything. Some things you might be drawn to will most likely be that it has 4 doors. Some people might get it, some wont. Chevy NEVER made a 4 door suburban until 1973. They made 3 door suburbans in the 67-72 body style. I have documentation that there are 41-46 body style with 3 doors but they would have been an aftermarket company like a limo builder or the like.

I have documentation of pickups with 3 doors in my body style 47-55. These would have most likely been ordered by fire departments, airports, railroads-all people with too much of someone elses money.

I have photos of actual truck cabs with aftermarket 3 doors,

and now i have documentation of companies that created them with optional 4 doors for only $80 more....

so... long story short-I will be creating an original. It will be 4 door with the rear doors suicide like the first picture(yellow truck). The back doors (trunk area for lack of differentiation) will be a 3 door design like the Fxxx excursion and the chevy astrovan. 2 lower 'barn' doors and a single upper liftgate.

The chassis will be 4 wheel drive using Jeep wagoneer axles, aftermarket power steering and original wheels.

Power is coming from a 3.9 liter, 4 cylinder, 120 horsepower(345 torque@1650) turbo diesel made by the reliable and proven Cummins company(designated 4BTA)
Transmission will be a 4 speed overdrive automatic and a modern transfer case.

Visually, unless you open the hood-all else will remain bone stock appearance except clutch pedal will be gone and there will be additional gauges for the diesel. oh, and the 7 doors instead of 4... =)

MPG estimations are a minimum of 23 and Im expecting higher. It will seat 9 people including driver and have a period correct roof rack for snowboards, tandem bikes or other sporting accessories. That too will be sneaky as it will accommodate all Yakima systems but instead of flat black it will be polished stainless.

Better half has picked out a color combo-like this(ours will not sit as high and the white will cover the whole top from just below windows)

like this but red/white not orange
